It wouldn’t be a real General store without a selection of sweets, after all the Victorians actually thought sugar was good for you!
Ready filled jars of sweets (or candy) are available to buy online from many suppliers but I wanted to make some myself. I started with a pack of 4 empty jars I (ÂŁ1.85) and some nail art slices in sweet shapes.

The jar of liquorice all sorts was finished in seconds. I had a pack of 50 Allsort shaped slices purchased for ÂŁ1.19. I just removed the cork, gently pushed the nail art slices inside and replaced the stopper. The total cost was ÂŁ2.84 for this jar.
I took a little longer on the other jars. I had bought a pack of mixed chocolate slices for ÂŁ1.80, so spent some time separating them into different types.

There were 13 different types of ‘chocolate’ so I sorted them into 3 groups before placing into separate jars.

Total cost for the three jars of chocolate: ÂŁ3.80! A bargain. The jars could be more full but I figure that the shop will look more realistic if things look like customers have already been in to purchase some.
